The 20-year-old Swede lept more than
100 places in the rankings in 2003 to
59th after reaching his first ATP final
and making the third round at Wimbledon
as a qualifier.
Last year, he bagged his first title
- beating Xavier Malisse in the Lyon
final - and finished the year as Sweden's
number three, behind Thomas Johansson
and Joachim Johansson.
And this year, Soderling boosted his
ranking once more when he edged out
Radek Stepanek to take the title in
Milan.
Soderling is happy on grass, and that
third-round run at the All England Club
in 2003 remains his best performance
at a Grand Slam.
He demonstrated he could be a threat
this year when he took two-times Wimbledon
champion Roger Federer to three sets
in Halle.
