Tommy Robredo grew up playing on his
local hard courts but, like many Spaniards,
prefers clay and it is no surprise he
has yet to cause a stir on grass
His Wimbledon best to date is the third
round, which he achieved in 2003.
Though well established in the top
20, the 23-year-old is still waiting
for his big breakthrough.
His overall Grand Slam record is underwhelming,
having only got past the last 16 on
two occasions - a quarter-final spot
at the French Open in 2003 and 2005.
Robredo looked on course to make the
last four at Roland Garros this year
but lost a five-set thriller to Nikolay
Davydenko.
Elsewhere this year, the Barcelona-based
star has enjoyed most success on his
favourite surfaces.
He reached the semi-finals on the hard
courts of the Dubai Open in February
and made it to the final of Estoril
Open on clay.
