The Frenchwoman will again seek solace
on Wimbledon's grass-courts, where she
has reached the semi-finals twice.
In Paris, Mauresmo's flaws - her lack
of confidence and ability to close out
matches - are magnified by public expectation.
She will be free of such pressures
at the All England Club and her physical,
attacking game should pay dividends
on grass.
Mauresmo closed out 2004 in the best
form of her life - reaching a career-high
world number one in the rankings, claiming
five titles and an Olympic silver medal.
The 25-year-old has made steady progress
this season, reaching the last eight
at the Australian Open for the third
straight time and winning titles in
Antwerp and Rome.
But despite her obvious ability, Mauresmo
has still only made one Grand Slam final
appearance at the Australian Open in
1999.
The Frenchwoman will aim to remove
the question mark that hangs over her
big-match temperament at Wimbledon.
